Effective Range Detection Approach for Ancient Malacca Virtual Walkthrough

چکیده
In this paper, we present and examine range detection approach for view frustum culling that effectively speed-up the interactive virtual heritage project namely Ancient Malacca Virtual Walkthrough. The Ancient Malacca Virtual Walkthrough is a project that focuses on the modeling and visualization of Malacca city in 15th century. Traditional six plane view frustum culling approach use the plane equation to test whether objects is within the visible region. However, range detection approach is different. It is based on camera referential point and tests the objects if they are in the viewing range. The range detection approach can cull exactly the same number of objects culled by traditional six plane approach in virtual walkthrough. This shows that the approach define exactly the same view volume frustum as traditional approach. The advantages of range detection approach is the virtual walkthrough application can run in higher frame rates and the time taken is shorter to finish one round of pre-defined path. The results illustrate that this approach is able to increase the rendering performance of the virtual walkthrough without sacrificing the visual quality.

A Data Management Scheme for Effective Walkthrough in Complex Virtual Environments
Walkthrough technologies for virtual environments allow a user to experience realistic navigation in an unreachable scene. However, as the complexity and applications of virtual environments increase, it becomes a critical issue to maintain the quality of a walkthrough experience. In this paper, we propose an effective data management scheme to address this issue. First, we propose to use real-...
متن کاملImproved View Frustum Culling Technique for Real-Time Virtual Heritage Application
43 Abstract—Real-time virtual heritage application is normally executed with a high performance computer system. This is due to the complexity and highly computational cost which makes such system impossible to run in a lower specification computer system. Therefore, many developed virtual heritage application cannot be retrieved by the target users. One of the factors that contribute to the hi...
متن کاملManaging Gigabyte Virtual Environment Walkthrough
In this paper, we study the problem of interactive walkthrough of a large virtual environment (VE) where the data representing 3D virtual objects can not reside completely in the main memory. We tap into the wealth of techniques (indexing, caching, prefetching) that have been widely used by the database community, and investigate how walkthrough semantics can be integrated into these techniques...
متن کاملEffective Interaction Techniques in Information-Rich Virtual Environments
The goal of the proposed research is to examine an effective way of integrating symbolic data, such as text, video, audio, two-dimensional images, and other abstract data, into a virtual environment and to investigate the different interaction techniques. The resulting information-rich virtual environments may be ultimately more useful than traditional virtual environment. To reach our proposed...
متن کاملCyberWalk: a web-based distributed virtual walkthrough environment
A distributed virtual walkthrough environment allows users connected to the geometry server to walk through a specific place of interest, without having to travel physically. This place of interest may be a virtual museum, virtual library or virtual university. There are two basic approaches to distribute the virtual environment from the geometry server to the clients, complete replication and ...
